USA: Deep Down Announces Patent For ‘Loose Tube Flying Lead Assembly’

Deep Down, Inc. announced a revolutionary new patent related to the manufacture of loose tube flying lead assemblies.

Deep Down, Inc. (OTC QB:DPDW), an oilfield services company specializing in complex deepwater and ultra-deepwater oil production distribution system support services, today announced the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a U.S. Patent for its “Loose Tube Flying Lead Assembly” US 8,100,182.

The Loose Tube Flying Lead Assembly offers the flexibility to utilize any OEM’s J-plates, the ability to transfer the finger load, which lightens the flying lead and gives the tubes more compliance at the couplers, higher axial strength, UV protection provided by the outer hose and integration of the outer hose into the bend limiters, providing the Moray® increased rotational compliance. As it can be difficult to install separate steel and optical flying leads in these lengths, Deep Down can combine these components in Electrical/Optical – Loose Steel Flying leads (EO-LSFLs) where the electrical and optical components are inside a steel tube up to 6,000 feet in length.

Ron Smith, Chief Executive Officer stated, “This patent follows on from Deep Down’s previous patent for the manufacture of a non-helical subsea umbilical, which is a fully transportable system that requires less time and equipment than typical construction techniques. These patents demonstrate our ongoing commitment to develop new technologies in response to the increasing specialized needs of our customers. We are pleased to offer a design that eases the installation of the umbilical and improves the overall efficiency of the subsea distribution system.”
