USA: Dredging at Wading River Creek Underway

The dredging project at the Wading River Creek, undertaken by the Riverhead Town, is currently underway.

The Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a permit which allows dredging from October 1 through February.

Supervisor Sean Walter said: “We have been trying to get the creek dredged on an emergency basis since April. Between the DEC and the Army Corps, they have basically shut out all dredging. They are putting environmental protection above public safety.”

Regulators will not allow spring and summer dredging due to concerns for wildlife, according to riverheadlocal.com.
