USA: EPA Proposes to Renew Clean Harbors PCB Permit

EPA Proposes to Renew Clean Harbors PCB Permit

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is requesting comments on its proposed PCB permit renewal for Clean Harbors Los Angeles, LLC., a commercial hazardous waste treatment, storage, and transfer facility located approximately two miles south of Downtown Los Angeles in the industrial city of Vernon, Calif.

EPA’s proposed permit, if finalized, would be valid for 10 years and will allow Clean Harbors to continue to receive, store, and repackage PCB wastes. The draft permit imposes new additional safety requirements on the facility including regular random sampling, and more stringent cleanup standards if the facility were to close.

The 45-day comment period begins August 22 and ends October 7, 2013. The EPA is hosting an informational Public Meeting and Hearing on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 6 – 8pm at the Slauson Multipurpose Center located at 5306 S. Compton Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90011.
