USA: FERC Vacates Order Authorizing AES Sparrows Point LNG Project

FERC Vacates Order Authorizing AES Sparrows Point LNG Project

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued an order vacating authority granted in 2009 to AES Sparrows Point LNG and Mid-Atlantic Express to site, construct, and operate a liquefied natural gas marine import terminal and associated facilities in Baltimore County, Maryland.

AES Sparrows Point LNG and Mid-Atlantic Express said recently that they have decided not to proceed with plans to build a pipeline to deliver natural gas to southeast Pennsylvania from a proposed LNG import terminal and requested FERC to “vacate the Section 3 authorization and Section 7 certificate granted to AES in the December 17, 2009.

To date, no construction activities have been undertaken, and thus there are no facilities in service.
