Governor Markell Tours Indian River Inlet Dredging Project

Governor Jack Markell last week inspected beach renourishment/dredging activities north of Indian River Inlet.

The Governor joined DNREC Beach Nourishment Administrator Tony Pratt, Division of Watershed Stewardship Director Frank Piorko, Director of Parks and Recreation Chazz Salkin, Deputy District Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Curt Heckelman, as well as members of the General Assembly and representatives from Delaware Department of Transportation for a tour of the beach nourishment/dredging work currently underway at the beach north of the Indian River Inlet (in Delaware Seashore State Park).

Markell thanked the Congressional Delegation, DNREC and the Army Corps of Engineers for their commitment to doing everything they can to protect Delawareans from future storms. This project, which aims to dredge 500,000 cubic yards of sand, began on July 23.
