USA: Port of Davisville on Right Track

According to NECN, Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee and the state’s two U.S. senators have welcomed a new 126-foot tall harbor crane to the Port of Davisville.

Chafee and senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse announced the arrival of the new crane Friday at the port.

NECN reports that the $4 million crane is capable of lifting 140 metric tons. Federal funds were used to pay for the equipment.

Officials hope the piece of equipment will bring more shipping business to Quonset Point.

Earlier this week state lawmakers approved a $7.5 million dredging project to allow more ships to access the port.
