USA: Precisive Introduces New Gas Analysis Platform

Precisive Introduces New Gas Analysis Platform

Precisive, LLC, an innovator in unattended process monitoring systems for gas analysis, launched its new TFS™ (Tunable Filter Spectroscopy) platform with the introduction of Precisive™ 5, a compact hazardous-area compliant package for unattended hydrocarbon process and natural gas analysis.

Precisive specializes in unattended, all-optical process monitoring sensors for a variety of natural gas, LNG/LPG/BOG, combustion, emissions and biogas applications; particularly where real-time hydrocarbon speciation is demanded. Quantitative analysis of alkane gases specifically C1 to C5 (methane, ethane, propane, butanes and pentanes) and other light hydrocarbons are important in a variety of applications, including BTU measurement and quality analysis of natural and biogas products.

“From the beginning when we founded the company in 2007, we worked very closely with leaders in the natural gas industry to develop a product that truly meets – and exceeds – their technical and harsh operational requirements,” said Dr. Vidi Saptari, founder and president of Precisive, LLC.

The Precisive 5 will be launched at Pittcon 2013 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, March 17-21, 2013.

Precisive 5: Real-time Monitoring for Unattended Gas Analysis

The predominant measurement technique until now has been Gas Chromatography (GC) given the ability to separate individual compounds with high selectivity, albeit its slow response and high infrastructure requirements. For faster measurement requiring only a single heating value measurement, residual oxygen calorimetry is often used. The Precisive 5 gas analyzer requires no carrier-gases, no-calibration gases and offers fast-response analytics without compromising accuracy, repeatability, linearity or stability in the presence of interferences. Faster-response multi-component analysis provides significant cost-savings and efficiency gains in power-generation applications.

The Precisive TFS platform is an infrared absorption based on-line monitoring system that can be configured for composition monitoring or for trace-level measurements of hydrocarbons and VOCs (volatile organic compounds). The Precisive 5 is the latest platform in a range of solutions unveiled from Precisive including;

  • Precisive 1, OEM optical sensor module
  • Precisive 3, general purpose 3U/19” rack-mount product
  • Precisive 5, hazardous-area, CE, UL, and NEMA4X compliant product

“Precisive 5 has been specifically developed for remote unattended process monitoring particularly where fast-response multi-component gas analysis is required. We are delighted with the enthusiasm the market is already showing for our unique approach,” added Duane Sword, CEO of Precisive, LLC.

The Precisive TFS Key Features and Benefits

  • Fast-Response: real-time measurements for on-line hydrocarbon processing and natural gas analysis. Measurements performed in seconds, compared to minutes with GC-based systems.
  • Multi-Component: multiple composition monitoring (ie C1 through C5 and CO2) from ppm to percent level calibrations.
  • ‘GC-like’ Speciation: monitoring of complex hydrocarbon compositions with significantly faster-response than traditional gas chromatography systems that require physical separation of compounds before analysis can begin.
  • Low-Maintenance: No requirement for instrument carrier gas, no requirement for calibration gases, nor instrument fuel gases. Greatly reduces cost, complexity, consumables and maintenance.
  • Ease of Deployment and Use: Modbus communications interface enables remote and unattended deployment without constant operator intervention. Novice users can become very proficient with minimal training.
  • Stability and Linearity: measurement linearity across the full range and stability in the presence of variations in operating temperatures, pressures, and humidity levels.
  • Compliant for Global Deployment: North America Division System (Class1Div2, Groups A/B/C/D, T4, Type 4X), North America Zone System (Class1, Zone2, Aex nA IIC T4, IP66, Ex nA IIC T4, IP66), European Zone System (ATEX EX II 3G n IIC T4 Gc), and worldwide certification to IECEx standards.
