Wilmington Harbor Area Requires Dredging Work

The Wilmington Harbor maintenance dredging program will be undertaken this winter, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Wilmington District.

During this dredging project, performed by a hopper dredger, around 800,000 cubic yards of material will be removed from the Wilmington Harbor Baldhead Shoal Channel Reach 3, Southport Channel and Battery Island Channel.

The area provided for the disposal of materials is the Wilmington Harbor Ocean Dredged Material Disposal Site.

The environmental window for the dredging work in these areas is December 1 to March 31, and the total cost is estimated between $1 mln and $5 mln.
