USCG issues additional LNG bunkering recommendations

The U.S. Coast Guard’s Liquefied gas carrier national center of expertise, recently issued two field notices providing LNG bunkering recommendations.

The two notices issued by LGC NCOE named ‘LNG Bunkering Job Aid for Facility to Vessel Operations’, augment the existing policy with a recommended checklist specific for LNG facility to vessel bunkering operations, according to NCOE.

The checklist, that can be used for initial and annual inspections of shore-based LNG bunkering facilities, have been field tested at approved LNG bunkering facilities in the United States.

LGC NCOE’s LNG as a Fuel Workforce Development Committee is developing an LNG bunkering job aid for vessel-to-vessel LNG bunkering operations and LNG as a fuel machinery checklist that are expected to be completed in the course of the following few months.

In addition to the two latest notices, LGC NCOE updated the recently issued LNG bunkering recommendation notice released in September 2015. The updated notice includes experiences gathered during the recent LNG bunkering operations.
