USCG: Vessel Leaks Diesel Fuel after Allision near New Orleans

Oil spill clean-up operations have been launched on the lower Mississippi River after the Singapore-flagged Pac Antares started leaking diesel fuel following an allision with a pier.

According to the US Coast Guard, the oil spill was reported in the morning hours of April 12 close to the river’s mile marker 100 near New Orleans.

The 27,659 dwt vessel is currently moored at Nashville Avenue Wharf and the leak has reportedly been plugged.

The Mississippi River is closed to vessel movements from mile marker 91 to mile marker 101.

There were no reports of injuries following the incident. USCG said that the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
