VIDEO: Alstom Completes 6MW Haliade Installation

As the modern technological developments move forward so does the scale of the technological solutions. One of such examples is Alstom’s Haliade™ 150-6MW wind turbine, the largest offshore wind turbine to be installed offshore.

VIDEO Alstom Completes 6MW Haliade InstallationThe turbine has a 15% better yield comparing to existing turbines. With a rotor diameter of 150 meters it can provide power to around 5,000 homes.

It uses “Advanced High Density” direct-drive Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) which is more compact, thus reducing the weight of the wind turbine.

The first prototype of this turbine was tested at an onshore site at Carnet, near St Nazaire.

In November last year, Alstom installed the second prototype at the Belwind site 45km offshore Ostend harbor in Belgium.

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s specialist jack-up vessel, Bold Tern, despite serious interruptions from severe weather at the Belwind site 45km offshore, completed the installation.
