Ferus Smit yard in Westerbroek, the Netherlands has launched Arklow Shipping’s second multi-purpose cargo ship, the M.V. Arklow Bay.

The vessel, bearing the Yard No. 410, is a bulk oriented general cargo ship that will be mainly engaged in the transport of wheat, corn and other bulk commodities in European waters.

Arklow Bay is 119.5m long, 15 meter wide and has a deadweight of 8660 tons. The first vessel in the series, Arklow Bank, was delivered to the owner back in February.

The vessel’s hull form was chosen to adapt the ‘bulbless’ principle, creating a slender bow without bulb. Taking into account the various loading drafts and wave conditions to be encountered in service, the total performance of this bow will be better than a bulb optimised for one single draft and flat water only.
