Turkey’s First Indigenously Built Research Vessel Launched

The first ever research vessel built in Turkey named RV ‘TUBITAK Marmara’, was launched on Sunday, Feb. 17th, in Istanbul. The vessel, 41.2 meters long and 9.5 meters wide, was designed by Soyaslan Marine, indigenously developed and built at the Çeksan Shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul.

Minister of Science, Industry and Technology Nihat Ergün, Minister of Development Cevdet Yılmaz, Governor of Istanbul Hüseyin Avni Mutlu and President of TÜBİTAK Yücel Altunbaşak attended the launching ceremony. RV TUBITAK Marmara, built for the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK), will begin its service in May.
