Wikinger Turbine No. 56 Rises in the Baltic Sea

Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up Brave Tern has installed 56 out of 70 Adwen 5MW wind turbines on the Wikinger offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, Iberdrola, the owner and developer of the project, told Offshore WIND.

Iberdrola expects to install two more turbines by the end of August, with the remaining twelve turbines expected to be installed by the end of September, weather permitting.

The mechanical completion of the first cable is finished and cable tests and OSS energization is expected to take place during September, Iberdrola said.

The wind farm’s 70 turbines are scheduled to be connected to the grid before the year end.

Wikinger is located in the northern part of an area known as Westlich Adlergrund, approximately 75km from the mainland and close to the island of Rügen. The wind farm is situated in an area designated by German authorities as a Priority Offshore Development Area.

The EUR 1.4 billion wind farm will be operated from the recently opened O&M base in Mukran for at least 25 years.
