Wind Minds Involved in First Taiwanese Offshore Wind Farm

MECAL, founding member of Wind Minds, has announced the signature of a Framework Agreement with Swancor Ltd. regarding the provision of its services for Formosa 1 Offshore Wind Farm in Taiwan. 

Formosa 1 OWF is expected to be Taiwan’s first offshore wind farm with installed capacity of approximately 130 MW. MECAL has provided consultancy services to Swancor since the early stages of the project development including:

• Technology evaluation of WTG models
• Financial model creation/simulations
• TSA and SAA strategy and tendering

Within the next stage, it is agreed that MECAL will be involved in:

• Financial Modelling
• Wind Turbine Procurement
• Electrical Design
• Installation Vessel Chartering
• O&M strategy Development
• Contract negotiations
• Interface & Risk Management

Formosa 1 Wind Farm will be erected 2-6km off the north-western coast of Taiwan, in water depths of 10-30m. It will have up to 36 WTGs, depending on the ongoing WTG tender outcome. The Formosa 1 project is one of three proposed demonstration projects backed by the Taiwanese Government and is scheduled to be completed in 2019.

Wind Minds is a new European company in which four independent experts combine their forces and experience relating to offshore wind power. The focus is to provide a flexible and expert service for our customers in the field of offshore wind farm development, installation and operation.
