Wintershall Gets Consent to Use Songa Delta Rig For Exploration Drilling off Norway

Wintershall Norge ASA has been granted consent to carry out exploration drilling of well 35/12-4S & A with the mobile facility Songa Delta.

The well will be drilled in production licence 378 in the North Sea, 34 kilometres north of Troll C.

The well has the coordinates N 61° 11′ 06.79”, E 03° 41′ 29.48”. The water depth at the site is 360 metres.

The drilling is scheduled to start in March 2011 and will last 43 days. If any discoveries are made which warrant formation testing or drilling of a sidetrack well, the activity could last up to 87 days.

The semi-submersible drilling facility Songa Delta (pictured) is owned by Songa Offshore and operated by Odfjell Drilling.

Songa Delta is an Ocean Ranger type 3rd generation mobile drilling facility, commissioned at Rauma Repola in Finland in 1981. The facility has been modified several times, and is registered in Norway with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) as classification society.
