WSP secures Grain LNG job

Project & Tenders

Technical consultancy WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff has been selected to provide engineering and design services on the National Grid’s Grain LNG terminal’s expansion framework.

The Isle of Grain LNG terminal in Kent is already the largest facility in Europe, however, with the framework, National Grid plans to increase its capacity and the scope of its services, including potential on-site power generation and storage facilities, to meet the UK’s future energy needs, WSP’s statement reveals.

Under the contract, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff says it will provide a wide range of services ranging from feasibility studies, conceptual design and front-end engineering, to safety and risk assessment, and hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) to identify and evaluate potential risks.

The study into a possible expansion of the Grain LNG terminal comes due to the forecasted dependency of the United Kingdom on imported gas, which is expected to exceed 76 percent by 2030, according to the statement.
