Yemen LNG, Shabwah Sign Development Agreements

Yemen LNG General Manager, Jacques Azibert, and the Governor of Shabwah Ahmad Bahaj, signed in Sana’a three development agreements that will provide $2.82 million in financing for numerous community development projects benefiting the people of Shabwah.

The planned projects will be implemented during 2014-2018, covering the fields of water, electricity and health.

Under the water agreement, 13 projects will be implemented during 2014-2015 to provide potable water. Projects include the installation of water networks and tanks, provision of pump units, and drilling of water wells that will benefit 25 thousand people. The total cost of the water projects is around YR355 million and will be implemented in cooperation with the Rural Water Authority of Shabwah.

According to the electricity agreement, Yemen LNG will connect the district of Rudhom to the electricity network being supplied from Balhaf, targeting around 10,000 beneficiaries. The total cost of this project is around $420 000 and will be implemented in 2014 in partnership with the Public Electricity Corporation of Shabwah.

Under the health agreement, a number of health care units will be constructed and equipped, benefiting around 10,000 people in 12 villages along the Yemen LNG pipeline in the districts of Rudhoum, Mayfa’ah, Al-Rawdha and Jirdan. The total cost of these projects is estimated at $760 000 and will be implemented in the duration between 2014-2018, in cooperation with the Health Ministry Office of Shabwah.

Speaking on the occasion, Yemen LNG General Manager Jacques Azibert said: “We enjoy an increasingly growing constructive partnership with the local authorities of Shabwah which resulted in delivering tangible results and projects which aim to provide for the development needs of target communities. The signing of today’s agreements is an interpretation of our commitment where we make sure that such projects will directly benefit the people of Shabwah.”

On his part, Governor of Shabwah Bahaj noted the importance of the relationship between Yemen LNG and the local authorities of Shabwah represented by the Governor’s Office. “We value the role Yemen LNG is playing and its commitment to continue to implement sustainable development programs in Shabwah”, Bahaj commented.

“Today’s agreements aim to implement critical projects in areas that impact people’s daily lives including water, electricity and health. These projects are the incentive behind the cooperation of the people of Shabwah with the Company”, the Governor added.
