138 Workers Evacuated from Teekay’s FSO after Fire

Some 138 workers were evacuated from Teekay’s FSO Randgrid on Sunday afternoon while the vessel was in the Port of Mekjarvik, Norway after a fire broke out in the vessel’s engine room.

“A small fire had broken out in the engine room which was extinguished immediately,” a Teekay spokesperson confirmed to World Maritime News.

As informed, there were no injuries reported.

“We have initiated an investigation to find out what exactly happened and how similar accidents can be avoided in the future.”

The vessel was recently delivered to Teekay Offshore Partners after being converted from a 1995-built shuttle tanker to a floating storage and offloading unit at the Sembcorp Marine Admiralty Yard in Singapore.

The ship has just completed the transit from the shipyard to Statoil’s Gina Krog oil and gas field in the North Sea.

The FSO remains moored in Mekjarvik, according to the latest vessel tracking data from Marine Traffic.
