Swedish Minister Shows Interest in Maritime Innovation Project EfficienSea

On 9 November 2011, Swedish Minister for EU Affairs Birgitta Ohlsson visited the international project EfficienSea, which is lead by the Danish Maritime Authority. The project has a total of 16 partners, among these four Swedish partners.

The international project EfficienSea attracts political attention, and there is a desire for the project results to be spread in the maritime environment.

EfficienSea

EfficienSea is a flagship project under the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The aim of the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region is to create regional synergies in the work ensuring an attractive, sustainable and safe Baltic Sea region. The EfficienSea project contributes to the Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region by striving for the Baltic Sea Region to become leading within e-Navigation.

The development should continue

The EfficienSea project is organized into four thematic work packages, and the Swedish Minister Birgitta Ohlsson was given a broad presentation of the comprehensive project. Among other things, she heard about the recruitment measures taken by the project as well as the project’s development of risk assessment tools and standards for aids to navigation.

The Minister concluded that it is important that the development is continued, also after the planned finalization of the project in January 2012. The results must be used, and they must be put in play in Europe and the world, Birgitta Ohlsson pointed out.
