China: CIC Changxing Shipyard Completes Repair Works for Vessel MV Horizon Hunter

On November 16th, 2011, the repair of M/V Horizon Hunter was successfully completed by CIC Changxing Shipyard. M/V Horizon Hunter (Horizon Line, USA) is 220m of LOA, 31m of molded breadth.

The main work was hull blasting & painting, other works includes all the windlass and winch mooring equipment repairing, five-year special survey projects and E/R pipes renewal, etc.

The repairing period was 6 days, which was very limited for such a hard job. Moreover, the ship owner required highly about the hull blasting and painting quality. After every coat of painting a thickness measurement was required and a painting expert was asked to do the inspection on site. According to this situation, the engineering department organized the workshops and quality department to make a repairing scheme just after her arrival, strictly monitored the repairing process, rationally arranged the production plan and the manpower, overcame the difficulty that the wet weather during the docking period affected the painting process.

The department leaders, the repair manager, business representatives, foremen and the coating team worked strictly according to the ship owner’s demand, controlled the quality while ensuring the speed.
