Samsung Heavy Bags Another Large-Scale Order

Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has revealed today that its Nigerian subsidiary has won a USD 3 billion worth order for the construction of an FPSO (floating production storage and offloading) unit for an unknown customer.

The FPSO will be the largest one in the world to be built until now.

SHI’s South Korean yard will build the hull and some upper sections of the vessel worth USD 1.72 billion. The rest of the USD 3 billion worth contract will be performed in Nigeria.

The FPSO will measure 330 meters in length, 61 meters in width and 34 meters in height, with a capacity to carry 2.3 million barrels of crude. The facility will be put to use for offshore crude production in the latter half of 2017.
