French container shipping company CMA CGM has revamped its Med Gulf Ecuador (MGE) service to the new MED AMERICAS direct service, connecting the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, Mexican Gulf and West Coast South America and including five new ports of call.

The new ports of call to West Coast South America are Balboa, Manzanillo (Panama), San Antonio (Chile), Callao (Peru) and Buenaventura (Colombia).

The company plans to deploy eleven vessels of 2,500 TEU on the route.

The new service starts with M/V Pomerenia Sky voyage for Mexian/US Gulf/Caribbean/West Coast South America origins and M/V Angol voyage for Mediterranean origins.

MED AMERICAS will have a special focus on the reefer market from Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia to the Mediterranean area, the company said.

The new service will also feature shorter transit times, the trip from Guayaquil to Algeciras is expected to last 15 days, while the voyage to Malta will last 19 days.

Connections to Greece, Turkey and Egypt would be optimized due to the alignment of the company’s feeder berthing windows in Malta, according to CMA CGM.
