Jan de Nul Takes Delivery of Fall Pipe & Mining Vessel ‘Joseph Plateau’ (Belgium)

LaNaval has delivered the Fall Pipe & Mining Vessel “Joseph Plateau” to Jan de Nul after the good execution of the sea trials.

The vessel is the largest of its kind in the world and one of the few vessels equipped for rock dumping in water depths of 2,000 m. Beside the very large operational depth, a unique feature of the vessel’s feeding system to the fall pipe is its capability to deal with rock size of 400 mm.

The system for the unfolding of the fall pipe is extremely advanced and operates fully automatically. At the bottom of the fall pipe there is ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) that accurately corrects the position of the lower end of the fall pipe.

The Joseph Plateau is also suitable for deepsea mining operations, i.e. recovery of minerals from the seabed and cable laying activities.

Jan De Nul Group already secured a contract for Joseph Plateau vessel in Australia. The vessel will conduct a pipeline stabilisation project in more than 150 m water depth.
