2G Robotics Supports Costa Concordia Salvage Operation

2G Robotics project manager Hubert Palej recently travelled to the Tuscan island of Giglio where he deployed the ULS-200 Underwater Laser Scanner to provide data needed for the Costa Concordia salvage operation.

The Costa Concordia struck a reef off the coast of the island of Giglio in January 2012.

Since then, a team of companies and professionals such as 2G Robotics of Waterloo, Ontario have been implementing “The Parbuckle Project“.

The Concordia wreck removal is a unique and extremely complex technical-engineering operation, a naval salvage operation like no other in history, involving the best international expertise, advanced technologies and unprecedented financial. Activities continue with about 500 workers and 30 vessels at work 24/7. Protection of marine ecosystem, safety of workplace and rapidity of removal project completion are the key priorities of the project.
