Severn Glocon completes two 21-ton control valves for Ichthys LNG

Severn Glocon said it has designed and manufactured the largest control valves in its 53-year history, at 42″ bore and 21 tonnes in weight.

Over the next six months, two valves of this scale will have been despatched from the Gloucester factory for the Ichthys LNG project in Australia, the company informed in a statement.

LNG valves needed to undergo cryogenic testing to prove they can operate reliably at temperatures as low as -160°c.

Future developments in the oil and gas industry will see valves of this size becoming a more regular feature, the company predicts.

Severn Glocon won the contract in 2013 for the supply of 536 control valves for the Ichthys LNG onshore plant facilities.
