BG co-funds natural gas research centre in Brazil

BG Brasil, a BG Group unit, together with the Sao Paulo Research Foundation launched the gas innovation research centre.

The centre has the goal to increase natural gas in the region’s future energy mix, BG said in a statement on Thursday.

The total investment in the project is at US$14.5 million, and the University of Sao Paulo, where the research centre will be located, will provide institutional and administrative support to the centre’s researchers. BG Brasil will put R$30 million (US$7.6 million) into the project.

Adam Hillier, BG Group’s chief technology officer expects the centre to contribute to the development of new technologies to increase gas utilisation and improve energy efficiency.

Among many fields of research, the centre will focus on the development of a natural gas supply chain for remote areas, the statement added.
