Greece, Cheniere in LNG talks

Greek Energy and Environment Minister Panos Skourletis held a meeting on Tuesday in Athens with officials from Houston-based LNG player Cheniere Energy.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Skourletis met with Jean Abiteboul, President of Cheniere Supply & Marketing and George Kokotis, Manager at Cheniere Supply & Marketing.

Cheniere is interested in joining a consortium to build and invest in a floating LNG terminal in Alexandroupoli, northeastern Greece.

The company also aims to ink a deal with Greece’s DEPA to supply it with liquefied natural gas, the statement said.

The visit comes just after Cheniere announced it is replacing Charif Souki, the co-founder of the company and former chairman, president and CEO.

Cheniere is also expected to ship its first LNG cargo from its Sabine Pass liquefaction plant in January 2016.
