Port of Rotterdam hosts LNG celebrations

A combined final event of the EU-funded LNG Masterplan for Rhine-Main-Danube project is taking place in the Port of Rotterdam.

To bring the project to a conclusion, a closing event is being held from December 14-16 in one of the world’s busiest ports located in the city of Rotterdam.

The final event marks the end of a 3-year period in which a total of 34 partners from 12 countries have worked together on the LNG Masterplan project.

According to the project partners, LNG Masterplan for Rhine-Main-Danube is one of the “biggest innovation projects” in the 2012 TEN-T Call with the budget of almost 34 million euros, co-financed with a funding rate of 50% from the Trans-European Transport Network Programme of the European Union.

The main goal of the project is to give a boost to the introduction of LNG as fuel and as cargo for inland shipping.

As part of the final event of the project, different tours were given to various LNG-sites located in the port of Rotterdam.

The tour included a visit to Damen’s LNG-powered inland shipping tanker EcoLiner, the Falck training facility and a visit to the construction site of the third jetty at Dutch Gate terminal in Port of Rotterdam.
