Maersk Group names new CEO

Søren Skou has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of A.P. Møller – Mærsk, replacing Nils S. Andersen, who will leave the Maersk Group, effective July 1, 2016. 

Søren Skou has been employed with A.P. Møller – Mærsk since 1983 and member of the Executive Board of A.P. Møller – Mærsk since 2006, the company said in a statement.

In 2012 he was appointed CEO of Maersk Line, a position in which he will remain, in addition to his position as CEO for the Maersk Group.

The board tasked the new management to find further options for structural and strategic improvements.

Since 2008 the company has undergone through a phase of operational optimisation and in 2012 it sold its LNG unit to a joint venture by Teekay and Marubeni, in an approximately US$1.4 billion transaction.

Recently, Maersk tuned to exploring opportunities related to the use of LNG as marine propulsion and marine fuel in the Middle East region together with Shell and Qatargas.
