UK LNG reloads on the rise

The UK’s exports of previously imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) recorded a three-fold rise in the third quarter of 2016 when compared to the same period a year before, according to the latest government data.

LNG reloads stood at 3 TWh or about 0.3 billion cubic meters in the third quarter last year.

This accounted for around 7 percent of total gas exports during the quarter, data from the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) showed.

The re-exported volumes were sent to various sources including Brazil, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, the BEIS data said.

In the January-October period, LNG reloads rose almost 82 percent to 5.5 TWh.

On the other side, the UK’s imports of natural gas dropped 13.2 percent year-on-year.

The fall in imports was largely driven by LNG imports that slipped by 35 percent to 28.7 TWh in the third quarter.

The majority of LNG imports were sourced from Qatar, around 91 percent. However, LNG imports from the world’s largest producer into the UK dropped 14 percent in the mentioned period, the data showed.
