Spanish LNG terminal operator, Enagás, said Thursday that daily natural gas demand for power generation in the country reached a record high on June 21 due to very warm weather.

Spanish daily natural gas demand for electricity generation hit 465 GWh, the highest summer value since 2011, according to Enagás.

This increase was mainly due to the high temperatures recorded yesterday as well as lower wind and hydro generation.

Conventional demand for natural gas, targeted at household, commercial and industrial consumption reached 643 GWh on Wednesday.

So far this year, total natural gas demand in Spain has increased by around 6 percent and deliveries for electricity generation by 19 percent, Enagás said.

Spain’s meteorological agency, Aemet expects temperatures to continue to rise in the next few days, Enagás noted in the statement, adding that new records could be achieved by the end of the week.
