Shipowner takes over ‘China’s first’ dual-fuel methanol-powered bunkering vessel

Hong Kong-based shipowner Wah Kwong Maritime Transport Holdings Limited has welcomed to its fleet what it says is China’s first dual-fuel methanol-powered bunkering vessel.

Da Qing 268 is the fourth bunkering vessel under the company’s care, joining Hai Gang Wei Lai, the largest LNG bunkering vessel at the time of its launch, Hai Gang Zhi Yuan, the first methanol bunkering vessel in China, and Huaihe Nengyuan Qihang, China’s first river‑sea LNG bunkering vessel.

The vessel is 109.9 meters long, has a 7,500 DWT and 10,362 m3 of cargo tank capacity.

It completed its first ship-to-ship bunkering operation on January 21 at Yantian Port in Shenzhen, supplying 200 tons of green methanol to the container ship COSCO SHIPPING Carnation.

The green methanol was supplied by CIMC Enric Holdings Limited from its Zhanjiang (Guangdong) facility, which started operations in December 2025.
