Danish wave energy company Wavepiston entered into an agreement in 2023 with French firm YS Energies Marines Developpement (YS EMD) for the development of the wave energy project.

In succession of the work started under this partnership, Wavepiston entered a collaboration with CreOcean to perform a wave data campaign on Martinique’s east coast.

The French firm has installed a wave buoy, which will collect wave data for 12 months on Martinique’s Atlantic coast to advance the understanding of the local wave resource.

This will bring Wavepiston closer to the deployment of a pilot farm, followed by a commercial wave energy farm.

The budget is €63,000, with the project receiving funding from ADEME.

“Furthermore, the project will receive local support on engaging with local politicians and landowners. Getting the buy-in from local stakeholders is very important for the development of Wavepiston wave energy farms,” Wavepiston said.
