EDP to ink LNG supply deal

Energia del Pacifico SA is planning to sign a purchase agreement for the first supply of LNG to mainland Central America.

The company, a JV between Quantum Energias and Wärtsilä inteds to buy 500,000 metric tons of LNG a year to fire the power plant it will build at the port of Acajutla, according to Alejandro Alle, Quantum’s CEO, reports Bloomberg.

The contract will be for 20 years of supplies for the facility that’s scheduled to start commercial operations in January 2018, he said. Contract is to be signed at the end of July and six to eight vessels a year will arrive at Acajutla, in what is now the first project of receiving LNG in continental Central America.

Alle also said that the LNG price on purchase agreement will be tied to Brent crude.
