Downturn in Israeli fisheries due to decline in stocks

The Ministry of Agriculture noted in a report from 2007 that there had been a 20 percent demise in the fishing industry. Fishermen in Jaffa said that the depletion of fish stocks had made it difficult for them to make a living out of their chosen livelihoods. The report confirmed that some fishermen had left the trade due to the steep decline in catches while others had switched to inshore fishing, despite its higher costs.
