China: Changxing Shipyard Successfully Repairs Vessel MV Peach Mountain

After two weeks’ effort, the repair work on the mv.“Peach Mountain” at Changxing Shipyard has been successfully completed and the vessel left the shipyard at 1 p.m on Aug 26th. As a bulk carrier with the age of 16 years, the repair work of mv.“Peach Mountain” mainly focused on the hatch covers, docking and engine room.

As soon as the vessel came into our shipyard, repair manager, supervisors and workshop staff had gathered to have a thematic meeting, so as to make clear repair details and necessary deadlines. According to several main projects, the production department made the correlative adjustment of the labor force to ensure normal and continuous work onboard based on the production capacity. After her docking, renewal of about 100m2 bottom plates was found, and steel work on hatch covers was more than estimated, which posed a problem to the shipyard to be solved. With a series of targeted dispatch, the production department tried its best to minimize the adverse effects of changeable weather on the steel work of hatch covers and guaranteed a normal docking period of the vessel as well. In the process of refitting hatch covers onboard, the staff had fully played fighting spirit to orderly accomplish the work of fitting new rubber packing, hatch cover operation test and pad doubler welding. All these had laid a solid foundation on the final hose test for the hatch covers and gained the approval of ship owners.

The successful completion of mv.“peach mountain” not only provided great invigoration and support to the management under less sufficiency of the labor force at Changxing Shipyard, but also added much confidence in undertaking more and bigger repair volume of the CS group vessels in the near future.
