VIDEO: Turkey’s First Indigenously Built Research Vessel Hits the Water

The first ever research vessel built in Turkey named RV ‘TUBITAK Marmara’, was launched on Sunday, Feb. 17th, in Istanbul. The vessel, 41.2 meters long and 9.5 meters wide, was designed by Soyaslan Marine, indigenously developed and built at the Çeksan Shipyard in Tuzla, Istanbul.

South Korea: New Mega Vessel ‘OOCL Brussels’ Damaged During Tests

Orient Overseas Container Lines’ (OOCL) new container ship, the 13,208-teu OOCL Brussels, was damaged during recent engine tests at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje Island Shipyard in Korea.

Sembcorp Marine Makes Progress on New Yards

Sembcorp Marine in 2009 unveiled plans to develop a modern, work-efficient and integrated New Yard Facility to position the Group for sustainable growth and expansion of its marine and offshore businesses. Integrated Tuas New Yard, Singapore Sembcorp Marine’s Phase I of the Integrated New Yard Facility, which spans 73.3 hectares, is on track to be commercially operational in the second half of 2013.

UK: Far Solitaire Wins Prestigious Support Vessel of the Year Award

Far Solitaire, built at the Romanian yard in Tulcea and outfitted at the Norwegian yard, Langsten has won the prestigious Support Vessel of the year award. The award was handed out at The Annual Offshore Support Journal Conference in London.

New LeaderSHIP 2020 Strategy – Future of Shipbuilding in Europe

The new LeaderSHIP 2020 strategy to increase the competitiveness of European maritime technology was presented by Vice President of the European Commission responsible for enterprise and industry policy Antonio Tajani, together with SEA Europe, the European Ships and Maritime Equipment Association.
