China: Agreement Reached for the Construction of 3+2 VLCCs

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Corp (DSIC), China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co (CSOC) and China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) have signed an agreement for the construction of 3+2 very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

USA: Hornbeck Announces Major Expansion of Its Newbuild Program

Hornbeck Offshore Services, Inc. announced yesterday, on Feb. 6th, the expansion of its fifth OSV newbuild program by four vessels, as well as its intentions to ultimately build up to eight Jones Act-qualified MPSVs as a subset of its growing OSV newbuild program to service the subsea construction and IRM market that is expected to expand significantly in the GoM beginning in 2015.

Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), the second largest shipbuilder in the world, in February 2011, entered into a contract with A. P. Moller-Maersk Group (Maersk Line) to build 20 Triple-E class vessels. These triple-E class containers signify economy of scale, energy efficiency and environmentally improved vessels.
