Zurich-based automation specialist ABB has been selected by the CSTS consortium to supply prefabricated electric substations for the Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) expansion project.

The CSTS consortium, led by Indonesian EPC contractor, Tripatra, along with Chiyoda, Saipem and Suluh Ardhi Engineering, is the onshore EPC contractor for the Tangguh expansion project.

The expansion project includes an addition of a third LNG process train and 3.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) of production capacity to the existing facility, bringing the total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa.

ABB said in its statement that it is designing, engineering and manufacturing prefabricated electrical substations that house low and medium voltage switchgear, IS limiters, LV variable speed drives, bus ducts and a direct current (DC) uninterruptible power supply.

It will also integrate and manage the existing electrical system in Tangguh’s first two LNG trains, ABB added.
