Abu Dhabi Ports Marks Double-Digit Growth in General and Bulk Cargo Volumes

The UAE-based port developer and operator Abu Dhabi Ports reported a 19% increase in general and bulk cargo volumes handled in the first nine months of 2015, compared to the same period in 2014.

The volumes rose to 11.28 million tonnes in the first three quarters of 2015, from 9.49 million tonnes in the same period last year.

Abu Dhabi Ports also set a record by handling the highest volumes of general and bulk cargo in two consecutive months―July and August. Combined volumes of around 2.86 million tonnes in these two months marked the highest volumes of general and bulk cargo ever managed by the operator.

Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports, said: “Abu Dhabi Ports’ increased general & bulk cargo volumes in the first three quarters of 2015 prove that our strategy to invest in innovative technologies, state-of-the-art infrastructure and customer focused services has paid off!”

Zayed Port recorded a 13 per cent growth in general and bulk cargo volumes in the first nine months of this year.

The company said that the addition of new cranes and other equipment, as well as implementation of new technologies such as Jade Master Terminal―a terminal operating system ―have optimized productivity across the ports.

Abu Dhabi Ports also said that the surge in general and bulk cargo volumes indicates rising import and export activities related to industrial and infrastructure development projects in the Emirate.
