ACE Winches equips Heerema’s Aegir

ACE Winches, a deck machinery specialist, delivered chain winch package for Heerema Marine Contractors’ Aegir vessel supporting the $34 billion Ichthys LNG project offshore North West Australia.

ACE Winches has engineered, designed, manufactured and commissioned a 200te twin chainlifter hydraulic package for Heerema. The chain winch package will be used to pull the chains with a diameter of 178 mm, the company said.

ACE Winches also produced two 50te WLL twin chainlifter hydraulic winches along with a 576kW electric hydraulic power unit and two 76kW HPU’s.

The deepwater construction vessel Aegir started installing the Ichthys LNG project’s subsea network and infrastructure in November 2014. 40,000 tonnes of chain will be installed to safely secure the Ichthys LNG project’s central processing facility and floating production and FPSO to the seabed.

The Ichthys project is a joint venture between Inpex, major partner Total, CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.

Gas from the Ichthys field, in the Browse Basin offshore Western Australia, will be exported to the onshore processing facilities in Darwin via an 889 km pipeline.

The project is set for start-up by the end of 2016.
