Adani Ports Starts Berth Construction at Vizhinjam Port

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), a port developer and part of the Adani Group, has begun the construction of the first berth at planned international transshipment port in Vizhinjam, Kerala.

The project is described as Kerala’s first ever deep water container transshipment port, with a deep draft of 20.5 meters. Once completed, the first phase of the berth will have a length of 800 meters.

“We are happy with the progress made so far at developing India’s first ever Transhipment Port at Vizhinjam. We are overwhelmed with the support bestowed on us by the people of Kerala and the Government of Kerala to develop this deep water multi cargo port in the country,” Karan Adani, CEO of APSEZ, said.

As informed, the project is moving as per schedule and is on course to be completed within the stipulated period of four years.

The transshipment port is located 16 kilometers south of the state capital of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram.

“The port is very strategically located for access to prominent international waterways, this project will enable India to be strategically positioned as a global transshipment hub,” Adani added.

APSEZ operates ports in Mundra, Gujarat, Odisha and Chennai as well as specialized coal handling facilities in Goa and Andhra Pradesh. Apart from the transshipment hub in Vizinjham, the company is also setting up a container terminal at Ennore in Tamil Nadu.
