Alcatel’s Lodbrog Vessel to Repair PPC-1 Subsea Cable?

Alcatel Submarine Networks’ cable ship Lodbrog has reportedly been contracted to repair PPC-1 submarine cable which experienced an outage earlier this month.

According to media reports, the Lodbrog will replace another ship which usually conducts repairs on the cables in the region, but it is currently working on the repair of Basslink cable system.

The operator of the PPC-1 cable, TPG, has discovered a fault in the cable which connects Guam and Sydney.

The fault was discovered approximately 4,590 kilometers from Guam.

As media reported, the vessel is due to arrive at the place of repair between March 02 and March 04.

Until the cable is repaired, TPG has in place international IP network resilience via alternative submarine cable systems including Southern Cross and the Australian Japan Cable system.
