Alfred Wegener Institute: Gallery of the Antarctic Expedition

The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research  has today published images of an Expedition Antarctic Winter Experiment.

The images show the vessel RV Polarstern, and its crew doing work, in the period from June to August 2013.

RV Polarstern is one of a few research vessels, which are able to sail Antarctic waters during wintertime. Therefore many questions about the ecosystem and the sea ice properties e.g. remain unsolved. A team of 49 scientists and 44 crew membres stay in the Southern Ocean from June to August. The following images document their expedition.
