All Veja Mate Foundations In Place

All 67 foundations are now standing in place at the 402MW Veja Mate offshore wind farm in the German North Sea after Offshore Wind Force (OWF) VM installed the last transition piece at the site in the early morning hours of Thursday, 27 October.

Construction began in April 2016 when OWF, part of Boskalis, installed the first monopile at the site by using the world´s largest jack-up vessel, Seajacks Scylla.

The Seajacks Zaratan was used for the installation of the transition pieces, Veja Mate Offshore Project GmbH said.

Rasmus Miller, Foundation Package Manager, Veja Mate Offshore Project, said: “Project work has its ups and downs, but it is never boring. We had our fair share of challenges to overcome and without everyone staying ahead of the game, it was close to impossible to achieve project success. I am therefore extremely proud to say that everyone on our Veja Mate and OWF teams, stepped up to the plate and tackled our challenges head-on.”

The next steps in the construction of the wind farm will be to complete the energization of the offshore substation, the installation of the inter-array cables, and subsequently, the installation of 67 Siemens 6MW wind turbines.

Veja Mate is a EUR 1.9 billion offshore wind project owned by the Highland Group Holdings Ltd, Siemens Financial Services, and CI II managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

The wind farm is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2017.
