Apply to Install New Drilling Control Systems Maersk Gallant Rig

Maersk Drilling has awarded Apply Rig & Modules the contract for the engineering, production, installation and commissioning of a new drilling control system for the rig Maersk Gallant.

The contract covers a complete system package with necessary software and hardware solutions – including a new driller’s cabin. The project will start up immediately, and the new system will be ready for installation in connection with Maersk Gallant’s planned yard stay in the second quarter 2014.

‘This is a big and important contract for Apply Rig & Modules, and we appreciate the trust Maersk Drilling has shown in us. We have previously carried out two similar projects for Maersk Drilling on the rigs Maersk Guardian in 2011 and Maersk Giant in 2012. In that connection, we clearly demonstrated that our control system can be integrated with any existing drilling machinery on board. That we have now won a contract for a third system for Maersk Drilling is recognition of our product and of our implementation capacity. The awarding of this contract is further proof that we are a competitive supplier of drilling control systems, says Peter Nygaard Andersen, Managing Director of Apply Rig & Modules.

Safe and efficient solutions adapted to customers’ needs

Apply’s drilling control system is designed to meet the customers’ need for safe and efficient drilling operations. In addition, all system deliveries are adapted to the individual rig project in order to achieve optimum performance in relation to the individual customer’s requirements. The combination of a state-of-the-art automation system and extensive customer adaptation results in a solution that has proven its reliability in relation to uptime and safety on the rigs where the drilling control system has already been installed.

For Apply Rig & Modules’ customers, it is also important that yard stays are as short as possible, so that the rigs can quickly get back into operation. Apply places great emphasis on this, and, by utilising the company’s multi-disciplinary rig expertise, we are able to offer effective yard stays. The result is that a new drilling control system can be installed, upgraded and commissioned in just a few weeks, depending on access and complexity.

‘In this field, we really make the most of Apply’s extensive experience of the rig market,’ says Nygaard Andersen.
