Archer Recognized at IADC Safety Awards (UK)

Employees from Archer, the global oilfield service provider, received a total of five awards at the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) North Sea Chapter Safety Awards. The event took place at the Ardoe House Hotel, Aberdeen, on Friday 10th of May 2013.

Archer won the coveted award for overall safety performance in 2012 in the platforms category. The company also won two special merit awards for outstanding safety performance with over five and six years no lost time injury or restricted work case on the Valhall IP and the Vestlefrikk B respectively.

A former IADC Chairman, Steve Rae, Vice President of International Platform Drilling & Engineering at Archer, was the first recipient of the Val Hood Award for services to the drilling industry. This award will be presented annually in memory of Val Hood who had worked for the Chapter for 14 years and died last year.

Paul Ellis, Senior Toolpusher, Archer received the Chairman’s special award for an individual who has demonstrated strong safety leadership and developed the right culture.

Speaking about the event, Kenny Dey, Managing Director – UK said: “We had a very good night with Archer picking up five awards including the top award of the year for safety performance as North Sea platform drilling contractors. This is a very prestigious and highly regarded title and we are honoured to have received it.

“It was an immensely proud occasion to have the efforts of Archer individuals and teams being recognised with such an impressive round-up of awards. We look forward to further building on these achievements.”

The event, which also marked the 40th anniversary of the organisation, was attended by 400 IADC North Sea Chapter members and guests

“The Safety Awards Dinner is our opportunity to applaud the continuous efforts of our workforce who strive daily to achieve the safest working environment possible,” said North Sea Chapter Co-Chairman, Darren Sutherland.

“This year’s event is particularly noteworthy as we celebrate the Chapter’s 40th anniversary and commemorate the 25th anniversary of Piper Alpha – a tragic event that initiated a significant overhaul of the North Sea safety regime.”
