Teekay’s first offshore accommodation unit, the Arendal Spirit, has left for sea trials. The company has made the announcement through its twitter account.

The Arendal Spirit is a flotel based on the Sevan Marine cylindrical hull design. The unit was built at the COSCO shipyard in China.

The accommodation rig has secured a three-year fixed-rate charter contract, plus extension options, with Brazilian oil company Petrobras. The unit is scheduled for delivery in early-2015. The cylinder-shaped flotel has the capacity to accommodate 490 persons.

Its sister vessel, also under construction at the COSCO yard, its scheduled for delivery in late-2015.
