A/S Norske Shell Drills Duster in Licence 392 Offshore Norway

Business & Finance

A/S Norske Shell, operator of production licence 392, is in the process of completing the drilling of wildcat well 6603/5-1 S (Dalsnuten).

The well has been drilled about 50 km northeast of the 6603/12-1 (Gro) gas discovery in the Norwegian Sea, and about 410 km west of Sandnessjøen.

The objective of the well was to prove gas in Middle Jurassic reservoir rocks. The well did not encounter the reservoir rock, and was dry.

The well is the first exploration well in production licence 392. The production licence was awarded in the 19th licensing round in 2006. 6603/5-1 S was drilled to a vertical depth of 5028 metres below the sea surface and a measured depth of 5214 metres below the sea surface, and was terminated in Cromer Knoll group in the Lower Cretaceous. Water depth at the site is 1446 metres. The well will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.

Well 6603/5-1 S was drilled using the Aker Barents drilling facility, which will now proceed to production licence 468 in the Norwegian Sea to drill wildcat well 6305/9-1, where Det norske oljeselskap ASA is the operator.
